All systems go for Austral’s Anthill copper mine

Austral Resources expects to start mining at its Anthill copper project in the last quarter of 2021 and to process first ore early 2022 after clearing the final regulatory hurdle this week.

The State Government has approved the amendment to Austral’s Environmental Authority for the operation, expected to run for at least four years and see the company employ more than 100 people.

Chief operating officer Shane O'Connell plans to award the mining and haulage contracts for the open-pit operation early next week.

Austral eyes new avenues for Lady Annie future

Lady Annie owners Austral Resources have their eye to the future with work underway to potentially exploit the operation's large sulphide ore resource.

It comes on top of a new copper mining operation due to commence at their Anthill deposit and planned exploration work in the region. 

“We have a further 10-year potential with sulphide resources which we are currently exploring,” managing director Shane O’Connell said.

“We’re an oxide processing facility, but we’ve got 44 million tonnes of in situ sulphide ore resources.

Anthill copper mine set to come online in early 2021

Privately-owned Australian company Austral Resources aims to kick off mining at its Anthill copper deposit north of Mount Isa in early 2021, after purchasing it from Chinese-owned CST Minerals last year.

The project is set to deliver a real boost to the local employment market and inject much-needed funds into the economy, the new owners say. 

Managing director Shane O’Connell said the company was on target to award the tender for the mining contract of Anthill by the end of next month.

New copper project coming online in North West

Lady Annie mine owner Austral Resources is seeking a mining contractor for its Anthill copper project north of Mount Isa.

Anthill sits within the Lady Annie project and is 43km from the existing heap leach pad and SX/EW (solvent extraction and electro-winning) plant.

Austral's website states that a mining study conducted by CSA Global in 2020 has resulted in planned production of 3.71Mt grading 1.1 per cent copper over a 30-month mine life.
