Alice Queen has kicked off a scoping study to assess the economics of a potential open-pit operation at the historic Horn Island gold mine in the Torres Strait.

The existing inferred resource of 7.9 Mt grading at 1.9 g/t gold for 492,000oz for an area adjacent to the abandoned pit will be updated as part of the process.

Phase one infill drilling at Alice Queen’s Horn Island project has returned numerous gold intersections.

The reverse circulation drilling program targeted Alice’s wholly-owned 'excluded zone' within the project and is not part of the joint venture area with St Barbara.

Alice completed 35 holes for 7,072m immediately west of the Horn Island pit in this latest campaign.

The company has now received assays from the first 15 holes, which comprised frequent gold intersections.

A five-hole diamond drilling program has kicked off at a former mining pit on Horn Island in an Alice Queen gold push following a $7 million capital raising.

The company said it also planned to commence a reverse circulation infill program in late September or early October.

The phase one RC infill drilling program will include up to 33 holes for 4100m, with results due by December.

Horn Island gold hopeful Alice Queen has raised $7 million to fast-track its exploration program.

The company said the proceeds would go towards completing the first phase of infill drilling at the historical mining pit at Horn Island in the Torres Strait, with the aim of lifting the resource to indicated category.

It will also kick off feasibility work on open-pit gold production scenarios at Horn Island.

Funds will also go towards drilling at Alice Queen's Boda East and Mendooran projects in New South Wales.

Gold explorer Alice Queen has announced results from a dipole-dipole induced polarisation survey across part of its Horn Island gold project in Far North Queensland.

And the company says exploration investment under its joint venture with St Barbara is well ahead of schedule.

In an announcement to ASX, Alice Queensland said the DDIP survey results, in combination with recent soil and rock-chip results, highlighted several coincident geophysical - geochemical targets with an intrusive related gold (IRG) and pathfinder (Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-As-Sb) signature.

Gold explorer Alice Queen has entered into a joint venture agreement with St Barbara for its Horn Island gold project, in the Torres Strait.

New geochemical work has highlighted the potential of the Horn Island gold project in the Torres Strait, according to proponent Alice Queen.

A company targeting gold in Queensland's Torres Strait region has announced an upgraded resource estimate after recent drilling.

Alice Queen has updated the mineral resource estimate for ts flagship Horn Island gold project to 7.96 million tonnes at 1.9 g/t gold for 492,000 ounces of gold using a 0.5 g/t gold cut-off grade

This represents a 29 per cent increase in total gold ounces and 30 per cent increase in tonnes.
