Mining region readies for new jobs trajectory
The mining sector is expected to remain the dominant employer within the Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday region through to 2024 - but it is tipped to lag other sectors for jobs growth.
A skills roadmap for the region has highlighted construction and health care/social assistance as the greatest jobs growth industries, by additional positions created.
Each of those sectors is tipped to create well over 1000 new positions based on Jobs Queensland employment projection data for 2019-2024, compared to 90 in mining.
