Classic Falcon fetches record $1.3m at auction

A Yellow Glo Ford GTHO Phase III Falcon has cracked the auction record for the most expensive road registerable Australian classic, selling under the hammer for $1.3 million at the weekend.

“We are not surprised that this Australian classic car broke this record with the amount of enquiry and interest we received all week and the strong bidding leading into auction day,” Lloyds Auctions chief operating officer Lee Hames said..

Ford lovers’ hearts a flutter over “The Chicken Coupe”

It is being billed as Australia's most sought-after Ford.

The 1973 Ford Falcon XA GT RPO 83 - dubbed the “The Chicken Coupe” - has been listed in the Grays July Classic Car Auction, commencing Friday.

The very rare, one-owner coupe is being auctioned after 32 years parked in a Queensland shed.

"We have had an absolute tonne of interest in the car," Grays classic car specialist Rian Gaffy said.

Now being auctioned by the deceased man's family, Mr Gaffy said they had been offered $150,000 before auction, but the car was expected to draw bids substantially. . .
