Oaky North industrial dispute leads to charges

The Fair Work Ombudsman is taking legal action against the CFMEU and five officials for incidents during an Oaky North coal mine dispute more than three years ago.

It is alleged that the union and each of the officials contravened the Fair Work Act by engaging in and encouraging abusive conduct that amounted to adverse action and coercion during an industrial dispute at the mine.

Fine for back-pay issue at FNQ mine

The Fair Work Ombudsman has secured $23,750 in penalties in court against the former operator of the Baal Gammon copper mine in Far North Queensland.

The Federal Circuit Court has imposed a $20,000 penalty against Baal Gammon Copper and an additional $3750 penalty against company director Denis Reinhardt.

The penalties were imposed in response to Baal Gammon Copper and Mr Reinhardt breaching the Fair Work Act by failing to comply with a Compliance Notice requiring the company to calculate and back-pay annual leave entitlements owing to two employees.
