Omega spuds Canyon-3 to kick off its biggest Taroom Trough campaign

Omega Oil & Gas (ASX: OMA) has started drilling the first well of its largest-ever appraisal program in Queensland's Taroom Trough.

The Canyon-3 well opened the fully funded 2026/27 campaign, designed to prove the scale of the Permian oil and gas play across Omega's acreage.

The program comprises four vertical appraisal wells, one a month, followed by one or two horizontal wells of up to 2,000 metres.

Drilling sector bracing for fuel shock fallout

Gas and oil supply shocks stemming from the Middle East conflict threaten to quickly impact the drilling industry in Australia, according to the Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA).

The drilling industry had already been experiencing shortages of key personnel across the board and longer wait times for specialist equipment, ADIA chief executive officer Jeff Miller said.

"Adding a potential supply shock on top of an already tight market will mean business gets harder and more expensive from here should the situation persist or deteriorate in the Middle East,” he said.

GBM Resources (ASX: GBM) has launched a multi-rig Stage 2 drilling program at the Twin Hills project in the Drummond Basin, with plans for about 20,000m of reverse circulation and 30,000m of diamond drilling.

This builds on the company’s Stage 1 program, which delivered results including 52m at 2.77g/t gold from 299m (Lone Sister) and 37m at 5.00g/t gold from 225m (309) - both outside the existing mineral resource estimate.

Placement buoys Ballymore

North Queensland gold junior miner Ballymore Resources (ASX:BMR) is raising more than $4.5m via a Placement to fund the development of an exploration drive and ongoing drilling of the Dittmer gold deposit, as well as additional field work including mapping, geophysics and geochemical surveys. 

The Company told the ASX this morning it had secured firm commitments to raise the funds through the issue of around 30.1m new fully paid ordinary shares at an issue price of $0.15 per new share via the Placement.

True North Copper changes tack

True North Copper is embarking on a fresh chapter, operating under the revised business strategy it has laid out as a blueprint after coming out of administration.

As previously outlined, TNC has paused the operational ramp-up of the Cloncurry Copper Project (CCP) and plans an extensive exploration and resource definition drilling campaign there and at its Mount Oxide Project.

The company resumed trading on the ASX this week following the completion of a successful recapitalisation.

AIC Mines has hailed results coming in from three drilling programs.

AIC is developing opportunities around the Eloise mine site, located east of the Landsborough Highway about 60km south-east of Cloncurry.

Eloise is producing at an annual rate of about 12,500t of copper and 5000oz of gold in concentrate.

Omega Oil and Gas is closing in on a start to an innovative horizontal drilling program designed to tap resources at it’s 100 percent-owned Canyon Gas Project in southern Queensland’s Taroom Trough.

Oil shale plan sweats on pre-feasibility

Greenvale Energy says the end is in sight for the pre-feasibility study covering the Alpha torbanite project located about 50km south of the central Queensland town of Alpha. 

The company explores oil shale deposits with a view to producing bituminous products.

Blue’s energy play runs out of steam

Brisbane-based Blue Energy has 20 days to appeal a decision to refuse its applications to further develop a gas resource in the Galilee Basin.

AIC Mines jolly about Swagman results

The closer the drilling gets to Eloise Mine, the better qualified the Jericho North prospect gets for owner AIC Mines.

The Jericho copper deposit is located 4km south of the Eloise copper mine and processing plant, which is south-east of Cloncurry.

AIC has reported the discovery of a new high-grade copper shoot named Swagman.
