Major silica resource expansion for Diatreme

Diatreme Resources has boosted the high-grade silica sand resource estimate for its Northern Silica Project to 235 million tonnes, substantially exceeding the estimated 75.5Mt resource for its nearby Galalar project.

Diatreme’s intention is to progress to scoping studies to determine the potential economics of a sand operation at the Si2 deposit, with the potential to fast-track development given its proximity to the Ports North-owned Cape Flattery port.

Chief executive officer Neil McIntyre said Diatreme's ongoing exploration of the Si2 dune complex continued to provide outstanding results.

Diatreme Resources says a new offtake agreement from its Galalar silica project highlights Asian demand for its premium‐quality silica product as solar energy goes from strength to strength.

The MOU with Jiangxi Kangjia New Material Technology Co covers supply of 250,000 tpa of photovoltaic-grade product from the Cape York project at mine start‐up.

Final metallurgical testwork for Galalar silica project

Diatreme Resources has engaged industry specialist Mineral Technologies (MT) to undertake final metallurgical testwork for the definitive feasibility study for its Galalar silica sand project.

The testing program will use a one-tonne bulk sample taken from an area representing the first five years of planned mining at Galalar.

Two variability samples from other areas within the first 15 years’ mining will also be processed to finalise the process flowsheet.

Diatreme Resources is eyeing sites in Townsville for a potential downstream processing plant for silica sand from its Galalar project.

Diatreme cashed up for ‘transformational’ year

Diatreme Resources has carried out a $4.64 million capital raising to help advance its Galalar silica sand project in Far North Queensland through permitting and approvals.

Chairman Greg Starr said the company was now well funded as it headed into a 'transformational' 12 months.

The company announced it had completed a bookbuild to raise the $4.64 million, including cornerstone shareholder Ilwella subscribing for $1.65 million.

It will also undertake a share purchase plan to raise about $500,000.

Diatreme highlights Galalar growth potential

Diatreme Resources says results from exploration drilling undertaken latelast month have highlighted the Galalar silica project's potential for further expansion.

The drilling program comprised 44 air‐core drill holes for 835m, with some 2000kg of bulk samples collected from the preliminary mine plan footprint.

Traditional owner representative body Hope Vale Congress has come out publicly to voice strong support for the emerging Galalar silica sand project in Far North Queensland.

Diatreme Resources has its sights set on a 2022 start to production at the Cape York project, which lies near the world’s largest operating silica sand mine at Cape Flattery.

An independent study highlights the potential economic benefits of Cape York's Galalar silica project for the local region, with a jobs boost of about 110 in the construction phase alone.

Diatreme Resources has announced a new MOU for offtake from its Galalar silica project in Far North Queensland.

The agreement with Chinese company Wan Zhong Investment Group is for the potential supply of up to 500,000 tonnes per annum of photovoltaic-grade silica sand.

It follows the signing of an MOU in July with the Fengsha Group, also for the potential supply of up to 500,000 tonnes per annum.

Scoping study paints bright picture for silica project

A scoping study for the Galalar silica project has shown its potential as a significant near‐term, low‐cost and premium‐quality silica producer for fast growing Asian markets, Diatreme Resources says.

The new Cape York mine, 200km north of Cairns, would cost $24.4 million to bring online and has a projected life of 15 years.

Diatreme says it would be developed in partnership with the traditional owners Hopevale Congress, with a 12.5 per cent project interest.
