A newly completed $6.5 million upgrade at Port of Townsville is set to improve cargo-handling capacity and enable larger vessels to access one of the operation's busiest berths.
The work means the port’s Liebherr ship-to-shore crane will be able to operate along an additional 360m of berth, extending its reach from Berth 4 onto Berth 3 and enabling it to service 550m of quayline.

Liebherr has unveiled its next generation luffing jib crane, hailing the 440 HC-L as a response to ever faster construction site cycles.
Following on from the 357 HC-L, the new release comes with improved performance values and is available in two versions: the 440 HC-L 12/24 and the 18/36.
The maximum lifting capacity of the 440 HC-L 18/36 is 36 tonnes. It has also been possible to raise the tower height of both crane versions by one tower section compared to the previous model.

The new Demag AC 80‑4 offers versatility, with its 60m main boom and compact design.
The company says the launch of the new model was prompted by the success of its previous 80-tonne crane, the AC 80-2.

A new ship-to-shore crane standing almost 100m tall is set to boost capacity at Port of Townsville as part of a $30 million upgrade to its multi-user cargo handling facility.
The Liebherr Super Post Panamax Ship-to-Shore crane is the first ship-to-shore crane purchased by the Port of Townsville since the 1970s and is due to arrive tomorrow.
