Wash plant work to continue Curragh’s winning streak

Coronado Global Resources (ASX:CRN) is working to boost wash plant performance at Curragh on the back of record-breaking ROM production last quarter.

Since reporting a six-year record in ROM production in June at the Blackwater coal complex, each subsequent quarter had surpassed long-standing production trends, Coronado managing director and chief executive officer Douglas Thompson said.

Jobs to flow as Curragh boosts mining fleet

Golding Contractors is bringing a fifth and sixth mining fleet online at the Curragh coal mine near Blackwater, generating about 150 new jobs.

The additional fleet was set to include Hitachi EX5600 and EX3600 excavators and 13 Hitachi EH4000 trucks, along with ancillary plant, the company said.

It follows a letter of direction from mine owner Coronado Curragh to increase mining plant at the Curragh main mine through the introduction of two new fleets in addition to its current mining operations.

Bumper quarter for Curragh coal mine

Coronado's Curragh mine near Blackwater delivered record sales volumes for the September quarter of 3.6 million tonnes.

The result was a 20.6 per cent lift on the previous quarter in terms of sales volumes and a 24.5 per cent lift in saleable production, the company said.

"This excellent result stemmed from an improvement in mining contract performance as well as the mobilisation of additional fleets to recover lost production and overburden from the first half of the year," chief executive officer Gerry Spindler said.

Curragh coal expansion plans on track

Coronado Global is steaming ahead with its plans to expand Curragh mine saleable coal production to 15Mtpa by 2023.

In its annual report released today the company said it had secured additional port capacity for Curragh, as well as executing agreements with Aurizon and Pacific National for additional rail haulage services to support accelerated expansion of the operation.

The Blackwater district mine achieved a 6.7 per cent increase in coal sales volumes in 2019 to a record 12.8 million tonnes.

Tyre-fitting ban directive at fatal mine accident site

Curragh mine owner Coronado Global Resources has revealed a ban on relevant tyre and wheel-rim fitting activities at the coal site after Sunday's fatal accident.

All operations at the Blackwater mine have been suspended since Thiess employee Donald Rabbitt (pictured) was killed during a tyre change in the main workshop.

The company today announced that operations would gradually resume in parts of the operation from tomorrow (January 17) at the earliest.

But it said the Queensland Mines Inspectorate had issued a directive after the workshop death that all relevant tyre and wheel-rim fitting activities be suspended until. . .

Thiess wins $1.3b Curragh mining contract

Thiess has won a six-year $1.3 billion contract to provide mining services at Curragh coal mine, 30km north of Blackwater.

Mine owner Coronado said the scope of work to be carried out at Curragh's northern operations included overburden removal and haulage, coal mining and run of mine rehandling services, equipment maintenance and pit dewatering.

This new contract is in addition to Thiess’s existing scope of work for provisioning and maintenance of Coronado’s electric shovel and supply of an ultra-class truck fleet.
