New round of exploration grants opens

Round six of the Collaborative Exploration Initiative has opened, offering up to $2.5 million worth of grants to help Queensland explorers find the minerals needed to charge the renewable energy revolution.

Resources Minister Scott Stewart said the funding would allow resources companies to test innovative and creative ideas which may lead to the next big mineral discovery.

“Exploration leads to more projects and jobs in the future which is important as part of our economic recovery plan from COVID-19,” Mr Stewart said.

“Right now we are in the midst of an exploration boom right here in Queensland.

Resource sector push for further exploration stimulus

The Queensland Resources Council is urging the State Government to commit extra funding from its $3 billion COVID-19 stimulus package to a key exploration initiative.

QRC chief executive Ian Macfarlane said the Collaborative Exploration Initiative (CEI), including the recent $10 million round matching industry investment, was paying dividends for Queensland.

“Exploration spending in Queensland increased almost $100 million or 30 per cent to $408 million last financial year,” Mr Macfarlane said.

Explorers welcome boost for wide-ranging projects

The wider scope and boosted budget of the latest Queensland Collaborative Exploration Initiative funding round has been welcomed by the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies.

“24 companies with 25 projects and almost $4 million in funding is a great boost for the industry and will make a significant impact to Queensland’s economic recovery from COVID,” AMEC Queensland manager Kate Dickson said.

“The increase in funding for this round, as well as opening up the eligibility criteria for the location of the projects, has huge benefits for jobs and economic growth opportunities regional communities."

Indium on the radar in new exploration grants round

A hunt for indium near old Herberton district mine workings is among the projects to win a share of almost $4 million in the latest round of Collaborative Exploration Initiative (CEI) grants.

Red River Resources is among the 24 companies receiving State Government support for exploration focused on the new economy minerals required for advanced electronics and renewable technologies.

The funds have been bolstered by the first instalment of a $10 million-plus booster pack announced last month to supercharge exploration and to drive future resources jobs.
