Taylor outlines technology investment priorities

Hydrogen, energy storage and carbon capture and storage are key planks of the Federal Government's new Low Emissions Technology Statement.

Energy and Emissions Reduction Minister Angus Taylor released the statement, described as the first milestone in Australia’s Technology Investment Roadmap.

It outlines five priority technologies and economic stretch goals to make new technologies as cost-effective as existing technologies. These are:

Santos launches hydrogen study for zero-emission future

GHD is carrying out a concept study for Santos on the potential to de-carbonise natural gas at the source to make “zero-emissions” or “blue” hydrogen.

The aim would be for the carbon dioxide produced as a result to be safely captured and stored in the same reservoirs that the gas came from.

Santos managing director and chief executive officer Kevin Gallagher said the Cooper Basin hydrogen concept study built on the company's progress towards a 1.7 million-tonne carbon capture and storage project.

Santos is targeting a final investment decision later this year on the Cooper. . .
