MacKellar Group scores $2bn mine services contract

MacKellar Group has secured a $2 billion contract to continue to provide mine services at the Carmichael coal mine near Clermont in Central Queensland.

Bravus Mining and Resources today announced the contract, running for the next five years, following a competitive tender process.

Bravus chief operating officer Mick Crowe said the business was pleased to continue its relationship with MacKellar.

"This decision secures the operational efficiency of Carmichael for today and sets a platform forgrowth in the future,” Mr Crowe said.

Anti-coal activist to pay Adani legal costs

A judge has ordered anti-coal activist Ben Pennings to pay 60 per cent of Adani Australia's legal costs stemming from his court battle to access confidential information.

The court-room wrangle over that information stems from Adani and the Carmichael Rail Network's legal action against Mr Pennings, accusing him of trespassing, breach of contract, intimidation and conspiracy to injure.

Marque Lawyers partner Kiera Peacock, acting for Mr Pennings, said the Supreme Court had formalised orders agreed out of court by the parties confirming that he would be allowed to see confidential information that underpinned Adani’s allegations. . .

Police investigate incident at coalfields work camp

Police are investigating an alleged assault at an accommodation camp linked to the Carmichael coal mine and rail project in Central Queensland.

News Ltd reported that the incident was an alleged rape of a woman, however the Queensland Police Service and Bravus Mining and Resources have not provided further details on nature of the case.

A Bravus spokeswoman confirmed that police attended one of the company's accommodation sites on Sunday, April 4 and that an investigation was underway into an alleged assault.

Bravus backs community programs to tune of $1.5m

Bravus Mining and Resources has spent more than $1.5 million on community programs and partnerships across regional Queensland since 2018.

And the miner is accepting applications now for the second round of funding under its Bravus Community Partnership Fund for 2021.

Orana fires up for Carmichael rail job

Queensland's Orana Drill and Blast has just finished up its largest civil construction task to date – undertaking controlled blasts to break up the equivalent of 1.3 million tonnes of earth to clear a rail corridor for the Carmichael Rail Project.

Activist back in court as Adani battle continues

Anti-Adani protesters gathered outside the Supreme Court in Brisbane to back activist Ben Pennings in the latest round of his legal battle with the mining company.

The Carmichael coal project proponent began civil proceeedings against Mr Pennings last year, saying the Galilee Blockade spokesman had been instrumental in organising blockades and the occupation of suppliers' offices.

Bravus hits back at rail site run-off allegations

Bravus Mining and Resources has hit back at allegations that poor sediment controls on the massive Carmichael coal construction project are causing environmental damage.

The Mackay Conservation Group this week said it believed conditions imposed on the company's rail project to protect nearby waterways from contamination may have been breached. 

MCG’s lawyers at Environmental Justice Australia have written a letter to Queensland Environment Minister Meaghan Scanlon urging an immediate investigation.

Police were called to a Carmichael coal project work site today after a protester locked himself on to a concrete batch plant.

Frontline Action on Coal, sharing news of the action on social media, identified the protester as Magnetic Island man Barney Jackson.
