Senex Energy will go ahead with a $40 million expansion project to lift natural gas production at Atlas by 50 per cent to 18 PJ/year.

The company today announced the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the work, set to support more than 100 jobs during construction.

Senex managing director and chief executive officer Ian Davies said the Atlas expansion project was yet another example of the low-risk, high-return organic growth opportunities available to Senex with its established hub-and-spoke infrastructure operating model.

Senex Energy is selling its South Australian Cooper Basin gas assets for$87.5 million as it focuses on Queensland project growth.

The sale to Beach Energy will result in Senex’s exit from the Cooper Basin after more than 20 years.

The company said it would support plans to accelerate the development of its Surat Basin natural gas assets, increasing the supply of natural gas to the east coast to support manufacturing and jobs.

Senex seals gas sales deal with Gladstone plant

Senex Energy has announced a deal to supply up to 2.5 petajoules (PJ) of natural gas to the Northern Oil Refinery near Gladstone.

It follows hot on the heels of yesterday's news that the major Queensland gas player plans to lift natural gas production from its Atlas project in the Surat Basin by 50 per cent - with Senex expecting to create more than 100 jobs through that development.

Senex says the new gas sales agreement will help Northern Oil Refinery grow its business and support 32 jobs directly and hundreds of jobs indirectly across Queensland.

Tender win enhances Senex gas developments

Senex Energy has been awarded preferred tenderer status forkey natural gas blocks in the Surat and Bowen basins.

The release is part of the Queensland Government’s domesticgas acreage tender process and includes includes additional acreage immediately adjacent to Senex’s Atlas development.

Senex says the new Atlas acreage will enable rapid expansion of natural gas production to about 18 PJ/year, an increase of 50 per cent.

The company has an agreement in place with Jemena to expand the Atlas gas processing facility by 50 per cent to 48 TJ/day sales gas.

Foot on the gas for Senex growth

Senex Energy has reported a 278 per cent increase in Surat Basin gas production in the past financial year and significant growth in its gas reserves.

Full year FY20 production across the board, including Cooper and Surat basin assets, was up 73 per cent to 2.1 mmboe.

Senex reaches completion on $400m gas development

Senex Energy is marking the successful completion of its $400 million Surat Basin natural gas development.

The company says it has completed an 80-well drilling campaign for the project, down from the 110 or so wells originally planned due to continued production outperformance.

The project also saw Senex and infrastructure partner Jemena build and commission facilities at Roma North and Atlas with gas processing capacity of more than 20 petajoules (PJ) a year.

Completion comes less than two years after the October 2018 Final Investment Decision for the $400 million capital program.

New Atlas gas sales deal with CleanCo Queensland

Senex Energy has secured a further domestic gas sales agreement with power generator CleanCo Queensland to be supplied from its new Atlas project near Wandoan.

Under the one-year agreement, Senex will supply CleanCo with 2.55 PJ of natural gas, commencing January 1 2021.

Atlas gas will fuel Swanbank E, CleanCo’s 385MW gas-fired power station near Ipswich in south-east Queensland.
