The State Government has launched a tender to support an additional 400MW of gas-fired generation capacity in Central Queensland as part of its Energy Roadmap.

The tender process, to be managed by Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC), aims to attract proposals capable of ensuring dispatchable supply by 2032.

Treasurer and Energy Minister David Janetzki said this was another step forward in delivering the right mix of energy infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing state. 

“Queensland needs affordable, reliable and sustainable energy, and that means making sure we have the right generation in the system at the right time,” Treasurer Janetzki said. 

“Labor’s energy plan lacked credibility and was undeliverable, however our Energy Roadmap is focused on improving what we have now and building what is needed for the future, including boosting private investment in new assets.  

“We’re opening the door to private sector investment because Queenslanders expect us to get on with the job of building what our growing state needs for the future, while respecting taxpayer funds and easing pressure on the balance sheet.”
