Great Southern Mining has announced the identification of a second large-scale induced polarisation (IP) chargeability anomaly within its Edinburgh Park project.

Ongoing gradient array IP surveys have delineated the IP anomaly at Mount Dillon, in the northern part of the project.

It comes after a shallow, large-scale chargeable anomaly was defined in the Leichhardt Creek target area late last year.

Drilling is scheduled to commence early in the June quarter, subject to weather and finalisation of heritage and environmental surveys.

“It is exciting to see large IP anomalies directly below two of the most favoured targets within the Edinburgh Park project, namely Mount Dillon and Leichhardt Creek,” managing director Matthew Keane, said.

“What makes these targets even more compelling is the coincident geochemical anomalism, favourable structural settings, proximal gold bearing breccia pipes and surface alteration that is consistent with an underlying acidic, fluid-saturated intrusive system.

“Project JV partners, GSN and Gold Fields, are both eager to commence drilling, which is likely to commence in the second quarter of CY2025 once the northern Queensland wet season has subsided.

“In the meantime, ongoing geophysical surveys and on-ground mapping have the potential to generate further targets within previously identified and newly identified target areas.”

Gold Fields entered a joint venture agreement in 2023 to sole fund up to $15 million exploration expenditure over a six-year period to earn a 75 per cent interest in the Edinburgh Park project.

A minimum $2.5 million must be spent in the first two years of the earn-in period. In conjunction with the agreement, Gold Fields invested $1 million for 38.5 million shares in Great Southern Mining.

Edinburgh Park incorporates nine granted exploration licences and two exploration licence applications covering an area of 1750sq km around the Mount Carlton gold-silver-copper mine about 130km south of Townsville.
