Lightning Minerals has announced high-grade tungsten assay results from initial reconnaissance rock chip sampling at its Warby project, about 25km north of Mount Surprise.

Fourteen rock chip samples collected from eight individual vein systems returned highly anomalous tungsten values ranging from 750ppm to greater than 50,000ppm (more than 5 per cent tungsten).

“The initial assay results are a strong outcome from our first-pass work at Warby and confirm widespread high-grade tungsten mineralisation across multiple historical workings,” Lightning Minerals (ASX: L1M) chief executive officer Troy Brice said.

“This gives us confidence there is considerable scope to define the scale and continuity of the mineralisation.

“We’re looking forward to our follow-up field exploration aimed at expanding our understanding of the broader tungsten system at Warby.”

The project features multiple historical shallow tungsten workings within a 2km north-west-trending structural corridor.

The company intends to undertake follow-up exploration programs in the third quarter of this year aimed at defining the broader footprint and continuity of tungsten mineralisation at Warby.

Planned activities include infill drainage geochemistry; systematic soil geochemical sampling; detailed geological mapping; extension sampling of historical workings; and assessment of drill-ready targets.
