Road upgrades underway at Port of Bundaberg

Preparations have commenced at Port of Bundaberg for road reconstruction activities on Wharf Drive.

Gladstone Ports Corporation chief executive officer Craig Haymes said local contractor Berajondo would be facilitating the new pavement, services and drainage improvements,.

“The Port of Bundaberg is a busy place, with many tenants, port workers and community members utilising the roadways, so it’s a priority for us to ensure these roadways are safe for all,” he said.

“As a vital link in the supply chain, and as an area that has the ability to support future developments, the project aligns with our long term strategic vision.”

Member for Bundaberg Tom Smith said the works had created about 20 local jobs.

“Delivering improved infrastructure that will support our export operations is a big boost for Bundaberg and for Queensland as a whole,” Mr Smith said.

“The project brings with it a pipeline of jobs for the region – boosting our economic recovery from COVID- 19.”

Other key upgrade projects completed at the Port of Bundaberg include the $5.3 million upgrade to Buss and Newman streets and the acquisition and remediation of the 7ha of decommissioned fuel tank terminal land in late 2021.

Promoting the Port of Bundaberg and surrounding State Development Area has been a key remit for GPC as it prepares for the next 50 years.
