Mount Morgan aquatic centre tender awarded, consultants appointed to assist with Dalrymple Saleyards master plan, and more ... Charters Towers Regional Council says it is continuing to consult with stakeholders to develop a business case and master plan to guide future investment at the Dalrymple Saleyards (pictured above). The council has engaged consultants AEC Group and StruXi Design to review work previously undertaken and prepare a master plan with a strategy for implementation. AEC Group and StruXi Design representatives will be at the saleyards to view operations and engage with stakeholders on March 22. Mayor Frank Beveridge said the project would bring many benefits to the region, including positioning the council to capitalise on opportunities such as the State Government’s Queensland Beef Processing Strategy 2019-2022, which aims to support the growth of the state’s beef processing industry. The tender to build a new Mount Morgan aquatic centre has been awarded to Taylor Builders, who have started pre-construction works including detailed design. The $6.5 million Mount Morgan pool redevelopment was funded through the State Government’s Resources Community Infrastructure Fund (RCIF) and Rockhampton Regional Council. Divisional Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the council had taken on board input from the community consultation that was undertaken in November and this was being incorporated into the design. Cairns Regional Council has committed more than $1.6 million for the construction of a new public toilet block and to upgrade five additional public amenities to achieve Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliance. A new facility will be constructed at the Lakes Park, Mount Sheridan, in response to community demand. It will include a unisex, DDA compliant, ambulant and accessible cubicle in line with council’s standard toilet block design. Upgrades will be undertaken at Glenoma Park, Brinsmead; Possum Park and Vallance Park, Trinity Beach; Giangurra Esplanade, East Trinity; and Johnson Park, Gordonvale. Planning is underway for a $15 million project to address flood impacts on the Bruce Highway at Goorganga Plains and Myrtle Creek, near Proserpine. As part of the planning phase, feedback is being sought from the community until April 14 on the future flood resilience upgrades at these locations. Mount Isa City Council has approved the preliminary overall structure plan, and the final Stage 1 concept plan, for the subdivision of the block of land known as the former Gliderport in Healy. Council engaged surveying and town planning consultants the Saunders Havill Group to produce an amended concept plan over the land. The final Stage 1 concept plan proposes to include: A total of 99 residential allotments, ranging in area from 600sqm to 1288sqm Entrance/exit from Burton St and Tracey Rd Connector road to Duchess Rd Lorraine Gibson Park to remain in existing location Provision for a childcare centre, neighbourhood centre, and health and medical facilities. A $3.6 million upgrade of the Bundi Rd Bridge over Wandoan Creek at Wandoan is now complete, bolstering flood immunity and strengthening the local road network to support residents, businesses and industry. Western Downs Regional Council has delivered the major upgrade in partnership with the Federal Government, which contributed $1.8 million under Round 5 of the Bridges Renewal Program. The pre-existing bridge was a low-level single-lane, timber structure which would regularly be impacted by rising floodwaters, creating significant delays and detours for motorists.
