Metro Mining’s Bauxite Hills operation shipped 424,730 wet metric tonnes of bauxite last month, an April record.

The result is 340,906 WMT above March 2025 (a partial operating month) and 46,379 WMT, or 12.2 per cent, above April 2024.

The figures reflect the ramp-up in production achieved after Metro completed an expansion project to take capacity to 7Mtpa at Bauxite Hills, 95km north of Weipa.

Tungsten producer EQ Resources has appointed Jonathan (Jono) Kort as chief financial officer commencing June 1.

Mr Kort (pictured left) has worked in the mining industry for more than 20 years with positions including financial, commercial and risk management leadership roles at BHP, Coronado Global Resources and Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal.

His most recent roles include chief development officer and chief financial officer at PanAust Limited.

EQ Resources has tungsten operations at Mount Carbine in Far North Queensland as well as Barruecopardo in Spain.

SSH Group has entered into a binding agreement to acquire Total Contract Mining. It will acquire all shares in TCM and all assets for total cash consideration of $60,000.

Settlement of the acquisition is subject to conditions including the appointment of Samuel Baker as chief operating officer of SSH’s mining services vertical (SSH Mining), the appointment of Kevin Malaxos as a non-executive director of SSH, and the engagement of two associates of TCM within SSH Group or its subsidiaries as mining consultants.

As part of the remuneration and consulting fees under the TCM engagement agreements, SSH will issue a total of 7,000,000 performance rights to Mr Baker, Mr Malaxos and the newly appointed mining consultants.

Greg Hoffman is stepping down from his role as North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (NWQROC) executive officer after seven years.

NWQROC chair Barry Hughes said Mr Hoffman’s leadership had been pivotal in strengthening regional cooperation, advocating for North West Queensland, and delivering outcomes that had directly benefited its communities.

“Greg will finish in the coming months, with the extended notice ensuring a smooth transition to an incoming executive officer,” he said.

“The board will now commence a recruitment process for an executive officer ready to build upon the organisation’s strong foundation and to lead the next chapter for NWQROC.”
