The final bidders for Anglo American's metallurgical coal assets are down to Yancoal Australia, Stanmore Resources and Peabody Energy, according to international news agency Reuters. This came from multiple sources with knowledge of the matter, Reuters reported. In May, the London-based miner revealed plans to shed its steelmaking coal mines as part of a wider strategy ‘to unlock value’ as it fended off a takeover bid by BHP. The company last week announced it was selling its 33.3 per cent stake in the Jellinbah joint venture that owns a majority interest in the Jellinbah East and Lake Vermont coal mines for $1.6 billion. Anglo American chief executive Duncan Wanblad said at the time; “Our process to sell the rest of our steelmaking coal business – being the portfolio of steelmaking coal mines that we operate in Australia – is now at an advanced stage and we are on track to agree terms in the coming months.” Anglo American owns the Moranbah North, Grosvenor, and Aquila underground mines, as well as the Capcoal and Dawson open-cut sites in the Bowen Basin. Queensland-focused gold explorer Pacgold has appointed experienced mining executive and geologist Caoilin Chestnutt as chair. Ms Chestnutt (pictured) follows Cathy Moises in the role, after her decision to retire from the board at next week's AGM. Ms Chestnutt has held senior roles with BHP, Anglo American and the Queensland Government and is currently head of corporate - technical services at mining contractor Thiess. She is is also a management committee member of the Queensland Exploration Council and an investment committee member for RFC Ambrian. “I’m thrilled to join the (Pacgold) team," Ms Chestnutt said. "Alice River is a compelling project with multiple drill-ready targets in a favourable mineral systems ecosystem and I’m excited to deepen our understanding of the orebody potential and scale.” It's official - the company known as Queensland Pacific Metals has formally changed its name to QPM Energy following its recent AGM. It also announced a new website today at http://qpmenergy.com.au It comes after the company focus changed following the acquisition of the Moranbah Gas Project assets in August 2023. It had previously concentrated on advancing its Townsville battery materials venture, the TECH Project. The company said the new name more accurately reflected its portfolio, whilst maintaining the ‘QPM’ branding which was well recognised by government, investors and other key stakeholders.
