Pure Hydrogen in rubbish truck trial
Pure Hydrogen Corporation will work with JJ’s Waste and Recycling to build Australia’s first hydrogen-fuelled rubbish truck.
The clean energy company will supply JJ’s Waste with a hydrogen fuel cell side-lift RCV truck, to be fuelled under its waste-to-hydrogen process, under a binding term sheet between the parties.
The trial will commence later this year, with the first truck based on the Gold Coast and set to hit the suburbs of south east Queensland.
Pure Hydrogen is an Australian east coast-focused company with hydrogen, gas and mobility businesses including a strategic interest in H2X Global.
It has five hydrogen projects under development including Project Jupiter at Gladstone and Project Mars at Mackay as well as three gas projects including Windorah Gas Project in the Cooper Basin and Project Venus CSG in the Surat Basin.

JJ’s Waste has more than 2000 trucks in its fleet and, if the trial is successful, there is potential for further hydrogen fuelled trucks to be transitioned into the fleet.
“We are delighted to be partnering with JJ’s Waste to build Australia’s first ever Hydrogen fuelled garbage truck,” Pure Hydrogen managing director Scott Brown said.
“We believe this is the start of a new era for heavy commercial vehicles in Australia which will not only reduce and fix fuel costs but be cleaner and greener for the Australian environment.
“It will also reduce our reliance on imported diesel by replacing it with hydrogen made in Australia.
“We see the business case for converting garbage trucks to hydrogen fuel cell rucks as very compelling and we are confident this trial will be a great success.”
