Powerlink taps Zinfra for major transmission work
Powerlink has appointed Zinfra to construct a transmission line between Calvale substation, near the Callide power plant outside Biloela, and a new Gladstone West substation south of Mount Larcom.
Their work will also include upgrading Powerlink’s Calvale substation.
It is part of the Calvale to Calliope River Reinforcement Project.
Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) has been contracted to build 20km of the 87km line involved and Zinfra’s scope covers 67km.

Powerlink chief executive Dr Seán Mc Goldrick said the reinforcement of the transmission line between Calvale and Calliope River was critical as the power system evolved.

“We are proud to partner with Zinfra to construct this section of transmission line,” Dr Mc Goldrick said.
“Zinfra brings the capability and technical expertise to help deliver this essential upgrade to the electricity network.
“They will work closely with CPP and BMD, who are delivering the remainder of the works.
“With our delivery partners locked in, we are on track and well positioned to deliver this critical project for the power system.”

The Zinfra appointment comes as construction gets underway across the project.
“Clearing and access work has commenced across the project, with more than $1 million spent with local businesses already,” Dr Mc Goldrick said.

“We have also seen locals employed directly to support the project and we expect that to strengthen as our delivery partners progress with their work.
“Our team conducted a series of sessions where local businesses heard from our delivery partners and learnt tips on how to tender.
“The sessions were delivered in partnership with State Development, attended by more than 126 businesses across Biloela, Gladstone and Rockhampton.”
Powerlink said nine local businesses were currently in negotiations with its delivery partners after connecting through these events.
