Zeotech has executed a letter of intent to develop manufacturing and bulk storage facilities for its AusPozz metakaolin product at the Port of Bundaberg.

It comes after the company delivered 400kg of AusPozz to major building materials firm Holcim Australia last quarter to begin low-carbon concrete pilot trials and 300kg to several other potential customers.

This was produced using kaolin from the company’s Toondoon project, about 200km south-west of Bundaberg.

Zeotech said the LOI provided the framework and development gateways to consider whether the Gladstone Ports Corporation land at Port of Bundaberg and port facilities were suitable for the project.

“We are pleased to execute a letter of intent with Gladstone Ports Corporation, which supports the work we are advancing under the company’s preliminary feasibility study,” Zeotech chief executive officer James Marsh said.

“The Port of Bundaberg has been identified as a strategic location for Zeotech’s potential kaolin direct shipping ore base and AusPozz manufacturing facility, providing diverse transport options, access to the east coast markets of Australia and export market possibilities.”

Zeotech attracted State backing late last year for a preliminary feasibility and front-end engineering design study for high-reactivity metakaolin production from its Toondoon kaolin project.

Matched funding of $145,000 was approved under the Queensland Government’s METS Collaborative Project Fund to support the completion of the study, with a total project value of $290,000.

Metakaolin has applications in the manufacturing process for low-carbon cement and concrete products.

Zeotech will continue AusPozz production trial runs during 2025 to support marketing initiatives and product approval testing in low-carbon concrete pilot trials.
