Overhaul powers boost for Rockhampton economy

A $60 million planned overhaul of Unit Two at Stanwell Power Station near Rockhampton is underway, with more than 400 specialised contractors contributing their skills.

Running from early July to August 30, the project is expected to require more than 155,000 direct hours of work from specialised trades staff and 55,000 indirect hours for support services such as trades assistants, cleaners, engineers and supervisors.

“We undertake overhauls like this every few years and we know that they inject around $10 million into the local economy through direct and indirect benefits such as employment, supplier contracts, accommodation, hospitality and transportation,” Stanwell Power Station general manager Angie Zahra said.

“Stanwell has a strong commitment to supporting and expanding local procurement, manufacturing, and supply chain opportunities, and the overhaul program consistently provides regional benefits for the Central Queensland region.”
