Outpouring of support in wake of Dugald River deaths

A fundraising page launched by the grieving crew mates of two 'huge personalities' is quickly clocking up pledges of help for the families of Dugald River miners Dylan Langridge and Trevor Davis. Organiser Steve Poznik is a jumbo operator who flew out last Wednesday after sharing breakfast with the well-liked pair, who were fatally injured later that day when their ute plunged into a void in the underground mine. Underground operations at the MMG-owned mine, 65km north-west of Cloncurry, remain suspended as investigations continue into the deaths. Mr Poznik said Wednesday had been changeover day for many Dugald River workers, meaning a large number of those who knew Mr Langridge amd Mr Davis personally found out about the accident in airports or travelling to work. There had since been overwhelming support as people banded together in the aftermath of the tragedy, he said. "Underground mining is such a small community and everyone has reached out from all around Australia and shown their support to all of us," he said. "It's just a really troubling time at the moment." Mr Poznik created the GoFundMe page on Sunday night after talking with other crew members about what they could do. By lunchtime today the pledges had passed $15,000. (Click HERE to visit the GoFundMe page) The Sunshine Coast resident also runs the business Dirty Hole Designs, which has helped the fundraiser reach a wide group. Mr Poznik said MMG was also running a fundraiser, offering to match employee contributions dollar for dollar. The fundraising page he launched with Buddy Conway on behalf of workmates pays tribute to their lost colleagues, both charge-up operators: "Losing a friend is never easy. Losing two at the same time is unthinkable. But losing two friends that form a part of such a small tight-knit crew and community, there are simply no words to describe how much harder that hits," he writes. "Dylan, you f***ing wild man, with a grin that spoke more than words ever could. You’re as tough as they come and yet you had a caring and sweet side that those fortunate enough to be close to you got to enjoy. "A loving father that would do anything for his children and a crew mate who will be sorely missed by all. "Trev, “Little Sexy”, I can still see that full body chuckle, it rolls up past your belly ending in a nod you just can’t seem to shake, never taking anything too seriously. "For such a little dude you had such a big presence. You’d always put others first and you’ve left a mark on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside you. "To show our love and respect, fellow miners from their crew at Dugald River have banded together for this fundraiser to show their support."
