Carnaby Resources has announced a new copper discovery in a previously undrilled area at the Greater Duchess project, 70km south-east of Mount Isa.

Assay results of 10m at 1.63 per cent copper, including 6m at 2.33 per cent copper, were recorded from a single costean across the northern end of the Mohawk discovery.

Carnaby also completed a Fixed Loop Electromagnetic (FLTEM) ground survey along with detailed mapping and surface sampling after geologists discovered the outcropping Mohawk copper mineralisation 1.5km south-east of Mount Hope.

“The discovery of undrilled outcropping high-grade lode copper mineralisation over at least 150m of strike at Mohawk coincident with a very large and strong ground EM conductor is extremely exciting,” managing director Rob Watkins said.

“Mohawk is located along a major NS (north-south) vein lode fault structure over a completely undrilled >2 km strike.

“This discovery, in addition to the Mount Hope discovery itself, exemplifies our belief in the wider Mount Hope region.

“It is a remarkably underexplored area with an enormous IOCG surface geochemical footprint of approximately 5km x 5km area.”

Carnaby, which kicked off a major RC drilling program at the weekend in the Mount Hope area, is planning a maiden drilling program at Mohawk.

The company said a significant aerial VTEM survey would also be completed at Mount Hope and Nil Desperandum regional targets. This is likely to start in mid-September 2024.

Pre-feasibility studies for mining at Greater Duchess are ongoing and geotechnical and infill drilling programs are in progress.
