Woolgar Project (Big Vein South)

The Woolgar gold project is a proposed gold mining development located in North-West Queensland, about 130km north of Richmond in the state’s mineral-rich North-West Minerals Province.

The project is being advanced by Strategic Minerals Corporation, a subsidiary of QCoal Group’s QGold division, and covers a large exploration area centred on the historic Woolgar goldfields.

The development is focused on the Big Vein South deposit, which is planned as a greenfield open-cut gold mine.

Ore would be extracted using truck-and-excavator methods and processed on site through a heap-leach and carbon-in-leach processing plant, producing gold doré for sale to international markets.

Once operational, the project is expected to process close to two million tonnes of ore per year and could produce up to around 100,000oz of gold annually.

The mine has an anticipated operational life of roughly 20 years, including construction, production and rehabilitation phases.

The Woolgar region has a long history of gold mining dating back to the late 1800s gold rush and the project aims to revitalise mining activity in this remote area while supporting employment and economic activity in nearby North Queensland communities.
