The Wilson Creek (Willson Creek) Project is a proposed coal development about 20 km north-west of Glenden in Central Queensland.
The project was owned by the privately held Australian mining company Vitrinite, which acquired the asset in 2016 as part of its strategy to develop new coal resources in the region.
Vitrinite entered receivership and voluntary administration in February 2026, with KordaMentha appointed to manage its assets.
The project was planned as a surface (open-cut) coal mine targeting shallow seams of bituminous coal, containing both thermal coal for power generation and metallurgical coal used in steelmaking.
Geological studies identified an estimated 61 million tonnes of coal resources within the deposit. The relatively shallow coal seams and low stripping ratio suggest the project could be developed with comparatively low operating costs using conventional truck-and-shovel mining methods.
Wilson Creek was in the exploration and evaluation stage, with Vitrinite having completed multiple phases of drilling to define the resource and assess development potential.
