The Westmoreland Project is a large undeveloped uranium deposit located about 380km north-west of Mount Isa, near the Northern Territory border.

The project is owned by Laramide Resources through its subsidiary Tackle Resources and lies within the mineral-rich North-West Minerals Province.

Westmoreland hosts several uranium deposits, including Redtree, Huarabagoo, Junnagunna and Long Pocket, which together form one of the largest uranium development projects in Australia. Exploration in the area dates back to the 1950s, when uranium mineralisation was first identified.

A 2025 resource estimate outlines indicated resources of about 48.1Mlb of uranium oxide (U₃O₈) and inferred resources of roughly 17.7Mlb, with average grades of around 770ppm and 680ppm respectively.

Feasibility studies have examined an open-pit mining operation with processing through conventional leaching to produce uranium concentrate.

Despite its advanced status, the project has not yet been developed because uranium mining is restricted in Queensland, although exploration and project studies continue as the company progresses permitting and development planning.

If approved, Westmoreland could become one of Australia’s most significant new uranium operations.
