The Urquhart Point Project is a proposed bauxite mining development located on the western Cape York Peninsula in far north Queensland, around 5km south-west of the town of Weipa.

The project is being advanced by Cape Commodities, which holds the mining lease over the deposit. The site sits within the Weipa bauxite province, a globally significant region known for extensive deposits of high-quality bauxite used in aluminium production.

The project targets pisolitic bauxite, a form of bauxite that is widely used as feedstock for alumina refineries.

Mining is expected to involve shallow open-cut extraction, with bauxite removed from near-surface deposits using conventional earthmoving equipment. The material would be prepared for sale as direct shipping ore (DSO), allowing it to be exported without extensive on-site processing.

Development plans have outlined a relatively small-scale operation producing up to about 900,000t of bauxite per year, with an initial mine life of around five years depending on production rates and market demand.

Once mined, the bauxite would be transported for trans-shipment and export through the Port of Weipa, supplying alumina refineries in international markets.
