Range Project

The Range Project is a proposed thermal coal development located 25km south-east of Wandoan and covering 5226ha.

The project forms part of a cluster of proposed coal mines in the region alongside the Wandoan Coal Project and the Elimatta Project, which target the same shallow coal formations within the Walloon Coal Measures.

The development has been studied as an open-cut coal mine, exploiting relatively shallow seams within the Juandah and Taroom coal measures that lie close to the surface and are suitable for truck-and-shovel mining methods.

Coal from the project would be processed and transported via rail infrastructure linking the Surat Basin to the Port of Gladstone, enabling export to international power generation markets.

Planning studies have examined infrastructure requirements including power supply, water management, site facilities and transport corridors linking the mine to regional rail networks.

Early development work also included exploration drilling and resource definition programs to support feasibility assessments and regulatory approvals.

Although the project has undergone exploration and planning activities, it has not yet progressed to production and remains a proposed coal development within the broader Surat Basin coal expansion corridor.
