Tartana is a copper production and exploration operation located roughly 40km north of Chillagoe and about 150km west of Cairns.

The project is operated by Tartana Minerals, which is developing the site as part of a broader portfolio of copper and polymetallic exploration tenements across the region.

The project centres on the historic Tartana copper mine, which was first worked in the early 20th century and later redeveloped to produce copper sulphate rather than conventional copper concentrate.

The operation focuses on extracting copper from open-pit deposits and processing the material into copper sulphate pentahydrate, a chemical widely used in agriculture and as a reagent in mineral processing.

Exploration across the wider Tartana project area has identified mineralisation containing copper, zinc, gold, silver and other base metals, reflecting the polymetallic nature of the Chillagoe mineral district.

Current development plans include expanding the open-pit resource and potentially processing ore through nearby regional infrastructure such as the Mungana processing plant.

With existing mining leases and ongoing exploration programs, the Tartana project is positioned as a small but growing copper operation aimed at supporting future base-metal production in North Queensland.
