Sunrise Project

The Sunrise Project is a proposed bauxite mining development located at Binjour about 115km south-west of Bundaberg.

The project is being advanced by ABx Group through its subsidiary ABx3, in partnership with Good Importing International (GII), which is investing in the development and may hold a majority interest in the project.

The project is centred on the Binjour bauxite deposit, which hosts a JORC-compliant resource of around 37Mt of gibbsite-type metallurgical bauxite.

This type of bauxite is well suited for refining into alumina, the intermediate product used to manufacture aluminium.

Mining is planned as a shallow open-cut operation, targeting near-surface bauxite that can be extracted using conventional earthmoving equipment. The project is designed to produce direct shipping ore (DSO) with minimal processing before transport.

Bauxite from the site is expected to be hauled to the Port of Bundaberg, where it would be exported to international markets, particularly alumina refineries.

Development plans include securing regulatory approvals, constructing mine infrastructure and establishing export logistics through Bundaberg.

If brought into production, the Sunrise project would provide a new source of metallurgical-grade bauxite from Queensland’s growing bauxite sector.
