The Rockwood Project is a proposed coal development located about 40km north-east of Dysart in the Bowen Basin.
The project is held by U&D Mining Industry Australia and is considered part of the company’s medium-term portfolio of greenfield coal developments.
The project hosts a substantial JORC-compliant coal resource of over 447Mt comprising both indicated and inferred resources.
Geological studies indicate the coal occurs within the Moranbah coal measures, a formation known for producing high-quality metallurgical coal.
Testwork has suggested the deposit could yield pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal and potentially higher-rank products such as anthracite, which are used in steelmaking and industrial applications.
Development concepts for Rockwood have included open-cut mining methods, with ongoing studies focused on determining the most efficient extraction and processing approach.
Earlier exploration and planning work has also assessed coal quality and marketability to support potential export opportunities.
Although still at the exploration and study stage, the Rockwood project represents a large undeveloped coal resource in the Bowen Basin and may be considered for future development depending on market conditions and further technical evaluation.
