The Rocklands Mine is a copper-gold-cobalt mining operation located about 17km west of Cloncurry in North-West Queensland.
The project was originally developed by CuDeco and later operated by Copper Resources Australia before being acquired by Austral Resources in 2025 with plans to restart production.
Rocklands is designed as an open-pit mining operation targeting a complex polymetallic deposit containing copper as the primary commodity, along with gold, cobalt and magnetite by-products.
The project includes multiple orebodies such as Las Minerale and Rocklands South, which host mineralisation across several kilometres of strike.
The site also features substantial infrastructure, including a nameplate 3Mta processing plant capable of producing copper concentrate.
Construction began in the early 2010s, with production commencing in 2016. However, the project has experienced periods of financial difficulty and has been placed into care and maintenance multiple times, most recently in 2024.
With existing infrastructure and a defined resource base, Rocklands is considered a near-term restart copper project, with ongoing refurbishment and development studies aimed at returning the operation to sustained production.
