The Richmond–Julia Creek Project is a vanadium development located in North-West Queensland, about 45km north-west of Richmond.

The project is being advanced by Richmond Vanadium Technology (RVT) and is part of a rapidly emerging vanadium province.

The project is designed as a large-scale open-cut mining operation, targeting shallow, free-dig vanadium-bearing sediments within the Toolebuc Formation.

Development plans include on-site processing to produce vanadium concentrate for use in steel alloys and vanadium redox flow batteries, a key technology for long-duration energy storage.

Mining is expected to extract up to 4.2Mt of ore per year over an estimated 25-year mine life, supported by a processing facility and associated infrastructure.

The project is considered one of the largest undeveloped oxide vanadium resources globally, with strong potential to supply growing demand for battery materials and renewable energy storage systems.

Currently progressing through feasibility and environmental approvals, the Richmond–Julia Creek Project has been declared a coordinated project by the Queensland Government, highlighting its strategic importance to the state’s critical minerals and battery industry development.
