Ravenswood Mine

The Ravenswood Mine is a large-scale gold mining and processing operation located near the town of Ravenswood, about 90km south-west of Townsville. The mine is operated by Ravenswood Gold, a joint venture between EMR Capital and Golden Energy and Resources, and is currently the largest gold mining operation in Queensland.

Gold mining in the Ravenswood district dates back to 1868, making it one of Queensland’s oldest goldfields. Modern open-cut operations began in the late 1980s, with the project undergoing a major expansion following its acquisition in 2020. The operation consists of multiple open pits, including Buck Reef West and Sarsfield-Nolans, supported by a central carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing plant that produces gold doré bars.

The project has capacity to produce more than 200,000 ounces of gold per year, with ongoing expansions designed to extend mine life beyond 2035–2040. Infrastructure upgrades, including a new processing plant and tailings facilities, have significantly increased throughput and efficiency.

With a large workforce and long mine life, Ravenswood is a cornerstone of Queensland’s gold industry and a key contributor to regional employment and economic activity in North Queensland.
