QCoal Northern Hub

The QCoal Northern Hub is a group of metallurgical coal operations located about 140km south-west of Mackay near the towns of Collinsville and Glenden.

The hub is owned and operated by QCoal Group and includes the Sonoma, Drake and Jax coal mines supported by shared infrastructure and logistics.

The Northern Hub produces high-quality coking coal and pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal, which are primarily used in the global steelmaking industry.

Mining is conducted using open-cut truck-and-shovel methods, with coal processed through handling and preparation facilities before being transported via rail to export terminals at Abbot Point near Bowen.

By consolidating multiple assets under a single operational framework, the QCoal Northern Hub improves efficiency and flexibility in production and export logistics.

The hub plays an important role in sustaining employment and supporting regional communities while contributing to Queensland’s metallurgical coal export sector.
