Poitrel Mine

The Poitrel Mine is an open-cut coal operation located about 35km east of Moranbah in Central Queensland.

Acquired by Stanmore in 2022, Poitrel produces hard coking coal and pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal, both of which are key inputs for steelmaking.

Mining is conducted using conventional truck-and-shovel open-cut methods, targeting coal seams within the Permian-aged Bowen Basin coal measures. The operation includes a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) that processes raw coal into export-quality product.

Once processed, coal is transported via the Goonyella rail network to export terminals at Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay near Mackay, where it is shipped to international markets, particularly in Asia.

Poitrel has a capacity of more than 4Mtpa, with output comprising about 65 per cent hard coking coal and 35 per cent PCI.
