The Phosphate Hill Mine is a major phosphate mining and fertiliser production operation located about 130km south of Mount Isa.

The operation is being acquired by Mayfair Corporations Group from Dyno Nobel.

It is one of Australia’s largest integrated phosphate mining and processing facilities.

Mining at Phosphate Hill began in the late 1990s, targeting extensive deposits of phosphate rock used in the production of fertilisers.

The operation is based on a large open-cut mine, where phosphate ore is extracted and processed on site into phosphoric acid and diammonium phosphate (DAP), a widely used agricultural fertiliser.

The site includes a fully integrated processing complex, incorporating beneficiation, acid production and fertiliser manufacturing facilities.

The plant has the capacity to produce around one million tonnes of fertiliser products per year, which are supplied to both domestic and international agricultural markets.

Phosphate Hill is supported by significant infrastructure, including gas pipelines, water supply systems and transport links to distribution networks.

Employing hundreds of workers, the operation plays a critical role in supporting Australia’s agricultural sector and contributes to the economic activity of Queensland’s North West region.
