The Centurion Mine is a recently developed underground coal operation near the town of Moranbah in the Bowen Basin.

The mine is owned and operated by Peabody Energy and represents one of the newest longwall metallurgical coal projects in the region.

Centurion is designed to produce high-quality hard coking coal, a key raw material used in global steelmaking.

The operation utilises modern underground longwall mining methods, supported by continuous miners and advanced ventilation and safety systems. Coal is extracted from deep seams within the Bowen Basin and transported to the surface for processing.

The project includes a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) and associated infrastructure, with coal transported via the Goonyella rail network to export terminals at Dalrymple Bay and Hay Point near Mackay.

The mine has an expected production capacity of around 4.5–5Mt of saleable coal a year.

Centurion has an anticipated mine life of more than 25 years and supports several hundred jobs, contributing to regional economic activity. As a modern underground operation, it is a key addition to Queensland’s metallurgical coal sector and Peabody’s Australian portfolio.
