New Acland Mine

The New Acland Mine is an open-cut coal operation located about 35km north-west of Toowoomba near the town of Acland.

The mine is owned and operated by New Hope Group and has been a key supplier of thermal coal for electricity generation since production began in 2002.

Mining at New Acland is conducted using truck-and-shovel open-cut methods, targeting shallow coal seams within the Surat Basin.

The operation includes a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) that processes coal for both domestic and export markets. A significant portion of production is supplied to Queensland power stations, while additional volumes are exported via the Port of Brisbane.

The mine has undergone several expansion stages, with the latest Stage 3 development extending mine life and enabling continued production of around 5Mt per year.

The expansion involved new pits, upgraded infrastructure and revised environmental approvals following extensive regulatory processes
