The Mount Rawdon Mine was a large open-cut gold mining operation located about 75km south-west of Bundaberg near the town of Mount Perry.
The mine is owned by Evolution Mining, which has held the asset since 2011. Mining operations concluded in FY25, while processing of existing stockpiles will continue throughout 2026.
The open pit is currently being reviewed for a pumped hydro energy storage project, which is being developed as a joint venture between Evolution Mining and ICA Partners.
Mining at Mount Rawdon began in 2001, targeting a low-grade, bulk-tonnage intrusion-related gold deposit hosted within a breccia pipe and surrounding volcanic rocks.
The operation used conventional open-pit truck-and-shovel mining methods, with ore extracted and processed on site.
The mine includes a large carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing plant, which treats ore to produce gold doré bars. Mount Rawdon has historically produced around 100,000–120,000 ounces of gold per year, depending on ore grades and mining phases.
