The Mount Moss operation is located about 100 km west-north-west of Townsville and 40 km west-south-west of Paluman Queensland’s Ewan Mineral Field.
The former magnetite and base metals operation includes a 300Ktpa processing facility (magnetite grinding circuit).
Sunshine Metals, in April 2026, announced its planned acquisition of the site from Mt Moss Mining for $18 million, with plans to process ore from its North Queensland projects.
This will require the addition of a gold circuit with leaching, elution and refining components.
Previous ventures at Mount Moss targeted magnetite iron ore, with copper and zinc as byproducts.
From about 2013 to 2015, the site produced magnetite concentrate through crushing and beneficiation infrastructure.
Falling iron ore prices, haulage logistics and the difficulties of running a standalone magnetite operation at modest scale in North Queensland saw that operation mothballed.
