The Mount Colin Mine is a mothballed copper-gold operation located in North-West Queensland, midway between Mount Isa and Cloncurry.
Breakthrough Minerals (ASX:BTM) owns 100 per cent of the mine and its associated mineral resources. Breakthrough acquired the operation as part of a package from Aeris Resources n a deal that was finalised in March 2026.
Mount Colin is an underground operation, developed using modern techniques such as decline access and stoping methods to extract high-grade copper ore with gold credits.
Development of the current operation began in 2018, with first production achieved in 2019. Ore has been transported by road to nearby processing facilities, including toll treatment at regional plants such as Ernest Henry and Mount Isa.
The deposit itself is a shear-hosted copper-gold system, with a long history of exploration and intermittent mining dating back more than a century.
Modern operations have targeted relatively high-grade ore, with reserves supporting a short- to medium-term mine life and a workforce of around 70–80 people during active production.
Mining at Mount Colin was largely completed by 2024–2025, with the operation transitioning to care and maintenance while surrounding exploration continues.
