The Mount Carlton Mine is an open-cut gold, silver and copper mining operation located about 150km south-west of Townsville and 60km south of Charters Towers.
Macmahon Holdings has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with new owner Wolfram Limited (a Bumi Resources subsidiary) to restart operations, with commercial production expected to ramp up by mid-2026.
Mining at Mount Carlton began in 2013, targeting multiple deposits including V2, A39 and Telstra, which host a mix of high-grade gold and silver mineralisation.
The operation is notable for producing both gold-rich ore and high-silver concentrates, with copper also recovered as a by-product.
The mine uses conventional open-pit truck-and-shovel mining methods, with ore processed through an on-site plant that includes crushing, grinding and flotation circuits. Depending on the ore type, the operation produces gold doré bars and copper-silver concentrate for sale to international markets.
Mount Carlton has a relatively short-to-medium mine life, with ongoing exploration focused on extending resources and identifying new deposits within the surrounding tenement package.
