The Moorvale Mine is an open-cut coal operation located about 10km north of the town of Clermont in Central Queensland. The mine is operated by Peabody Energy and forms part of the company’s portfolio of metallurgical coal assets in the region.

Moorvale produces primarily pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal, which is used in steelmaking to improve furnace efficiency and reduce coke consumption. Mining is conducted using conventional truck-and-shovel open-cut methods, targeting relatively shallow coal seams within the Bowen Basin coal measures. The operation includes a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) that processes raw coal into export-quality product.

The mine has a production capacity of about 3.5–4 million tonnes of saleable coal per year. Once processed, coal is transported via the Goonyella rail network to export terminals at Dalrymple Bay and Hay Point near Mackay, supplying international steelmakers, particularly in Asia.

Moorvale supports a significant workforce and contributes to the local economy of the Clermont region. As part of Peabody’s Australian operations, the mine plays an important role in supplying metallurgical coal to global markets and supporting Queensland’s export coal industry.
