The Minerva Mine is an open-cut coal operation located about 45km south of Emerald in Central Queensland. The mothballed mine was operated by Sojitz Coal Mining (majority owner) with a minor interest held by a Korean partner, and has historically been one of the few Australian coal mines owned and operated by a Japanese trading house.

Minerva produces a mix of pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal and high-quality thermal coal, which are primarily exported to international markets including Japan and South Korea. Mining is carried out using open-cut terrace methods, where overburden is removed by drilling, blasting and excavation to expose multiple coal seams for extraction.

The mine has typically produced around 2.5–2.8 million tonnes of coal per year, with coal transported via the Blackwater rail system to the Port of Gladstone for export.

Minerva commenced production in the mid-2000s and operated for over a decade as a steady export coal producer. However, the mine ceased production in late 2021 following the depletion of reserves and changing market conditions.
