Lady Annie/Mount Kelly Operations

The Lady Annie copper mining operation and Mount Kelly oxide processing plant are located about 130–140km north-west of Mount Isa within the prolific Mount Isa mineral province. The site includes several deposits across granted mining leases.

Mining at Lady Annie is conducted using open-cut methods, targeting oxide copper deposits that occur within sedimentary rocks of the region. Ore is processed using heap leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) technology, producing London Metal Exchange (LME) Grade A copper cathode. This process allows copper to be recovered directly from oxide ores without the need for smelting.

The mine first entered production in 2007 and has historically produced around 20,000–30,000 tonnes of copper cathode per year, making it an important mid-scale copper operation in north-west Queensland. Over time the project has changed ownership and is currently operated by Austral Resources, which recently mined the Anthill deposit as part of the operation.

Lady Annie remains part of the broader copper production network surrounding Mount Isa, contributing to Queensland’s base-metal industry and regional employment.
