The Isaac Plains Complex is a group of open-cut metallurgical coal mining operations located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, approximately 10km east of Moranbah in Central Queensland. The complex includes the Isaac Plains Mine, Isaac Plains East Mine and associated coal handling and preparation infrastructure.

The mines produce primarily pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal, which is used in steelmaking as a partial substitute for coke in blast furnaces. Mining is carried out using conventional open-cut methods, including drilling and blasting followed by truck-and-shovel extraction of coal seams from the Bowen Basin’s Permian coal measures.

Coal from the operations is processed at the Isaac Plains Coal Handling and Preparation Plant before being transported via the Goonyella rail network to export terminals at the Port of Dalrymple Bay near Mackay.

The complex is operated by Stanmore Resources and represents a significant component of the company’s coal portfolio in the Bowen Basin. The Isaac Plains operations contribute to Queensland’s metallurgical coal exports and support employment in the Moranbah mining region.
